Huggins wins award at SXSW Film Festival

Earlier this week, Kansas City filmmaker Gary Huggins’ Happy 95 Birthday Grandpa won a Special Jury Award at the South By Southwest Film Festival. The Star says the award in the Reel Shorts category is the top prize for short films at the Austin festival. Happy 95 shows the enlightenment of a little boy at his grandfather’s birthday party. Children play and hurl insults at one another as night falls. The film captures the crushing feeling taking things too far and hurting someone’s feelings. Click here to watch a clip. Huggins’ first short film — First Date — played at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, SXSW and Clermont-Ferrand. Congrats, Gary!
