Hopewell
Each time Hopewell swings through the Replay Lounge, the tiny
venue seems to have a harder time containing it. Few bands bring a show
as mammoth as Hopewell’s, replete with rock-star lighting and a
jet-engine squall that shakes the windows. Following in the footsteps
of bands like the Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev (the latter of which
periodically enlists Hopewell members Jason and Justin Russo), the
Brooklyn band crafts psychedelic-tinged rock jams that build to wild
cacophonies and breathe with slower melodic passages. Traces of tribal
Jane’s Addiction and early Pink Floyd inform the group’s latest LP,
Good Good Desperation, which follows on the heels of an opening
slot on the recent My Bloody Valentine reunion tour.
