Hope Totes

When a woman takes refuge at Hope House, she’s likely to show up with little more than the clothing on her back. During her stay at the local refuge for victims of domestic violence, she’ll acquire a sense of empowerment, along with some donated personal-care items and maybe a few more things to wear. As she embarks on a new life, she carries the self-esteem inside her, but everything else might get stuffed in a plastic trash bag. “One thing Hope House is needing is used luggage, handbags, tote bags and carryalls, in used but exceedingly good condition, that women and their children can use when they’re leaving Hope House,” says volunteer Janet Smith. Crown Center Atrium (2450 Grand) is a drop-off point for such items from 5 to 9 p.m. during Micah’s Fashion March. Presented by the Crown Center shop Micah’s of Kansas City, the Fashion March combines a runway show and beauty consultations with social awareness. The event coincides with International Women’s Day, which aims to celebrate the past, present and potential achievements of women. See micahsonlineshop.com for more information.
