Honky-tonk Help

The mission statement for Merriam’s No More Homeless Pets KC is simple: Make Greater Kansas City a no-kill community. In their modern, energy-efficient building (three different cat areas alone), the volunteers at NMHPKC are doing the best to lower the stress of wayward animals – and, of course, save their lives. Help the shelter cut down on euthanasia of treatable animals by attending the second annual Meow Mixer at Aftershock (5240 Merriam Drive, 913-384-5646). This rockabilly fundraisaganza features the music of the Blue Boot Heelers, Fall Down Drunks, Tinhorn Molly, the Wild Cat Daddies, Old Country Death and the Garage Kings. Vendors, raffles and food also help raise money. Admission costs $7, and the doors open at 6 p.m.
