HOMETOWN PREMIERE

Among the vast array of cinematic offerings at this year’s Kansas City FilmFest, films by local filmmakers will also be on display. In addition to Lawrence resident Kevin Willmott’s revisionist Western, The Only Good Indian, the festival will also host the first-ever public screening of the supernatural thriller Last Breath, written and directed by Kansas Citian Ty Jones, making his feature debut after a prolific career in short films. Two years in the making and featuring a cast and crew laden with local talent, Last Breath is the story of a couple (Jones and Mandy Bannon) whose faltering marriage spirals into chaos when they are imprisoned by a sadistic killer (Aaron Laue, who also produced) and forced to make choices that will determine their family’s fate. Last Breath premieres today at 3:30 p.m. at the new AMC Mainstreet Theatre (1400 Main). For tickets, see kcfilmfest.org.
