Last year’s Home for the Holidays play date at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art (4420 Warwick, 816-753-5784) saw kids getting crafty with aluminum foil — an appropriate medium, given the season’s penchant for sparkle and shine, but one ultimately inspired by host Miles Neidinger, a Charlotte Street Award-winning artist who transforms mundane materials (coat hangers, coffee stirrers) into cunning installations.
For this year’s family-friendly event, which takes place from 1 to 3 p.m. today, the museum’s current exhibitions — Remembering the Future and Lisa Sanditz: Flyover — serve as muses. With the former’s focus on time and memory and the latter’s colorful exploration of the Midwest, collages and scrapbooks act as fitting vehicles of expression. Kansas City musician Jeffrey Ruckman plays the dulcimer in the atrium, and gallery guides are available; children must be accompanied by an adult. See www.kem perart.org for information.
