Hit the Road
Every summer, thousands of Nebraskans and out-of-staters take a break from the NCAA College World Series to pack Omaha’s Memorial Park for a free concert. Typically, the acts are state-fair caliber, but this year, Saddle Creek Records’ golden ox, Conner Oberst, headlines the show on Saturday, which begins at 5 p.m. at the park (5651 Underwood Avenue). The next Bright Eyes album won’t be out until 2007, but you can catch some of the new material at the concert, along with performances from Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals) and Neva Dinova. If indie rock isn’t your thing, head over to the Omaha Civic Auditorium (1804 Capitol, 402-997-9378) and kick it old-school at the Freedom of Speech Tour, featuring 2 Live Crew and VH-1’s newest mascot, Flavor Flav.
