Hidden History

Ross Freese has been trying to teach that Kansas City’s gay and lesbian history is more than just the grand opening of Missie B’s. He leads the Kansas City Museum’s first Gay and Lesbian History Trolley Tour, which hits former locations of some historic Kansas City gay clubs and highlights many places with political and social significance in the gay and lesbian movement over the last 100 years. “A lot of gay history in Kansas City is a lot older than people think,” says Christopher Leitch, historic house director at the Kansas City Museum. The first of two tours leaves Union Station (30 West Pershing Road) at 2 p.m. The second tour begins at 4 p.m. The $45 ticket includes a wine-tasting reception from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Cellar Rat (1701 Baltimore). Proceeds from the tour benefit the Gay and Lesbian Archive of Mid-America. See kcmuseum100.org.
