He’s Gay; He Rocks

Pansy Division was never much for subtlety. The openly gay punk band has given fans such lyrics as He’s in his PJs giving BJs to DJs while working the Gay Pride Festival circuit. The band’s touring schedule has slowed since 2003, allowing guitarist and singer Jon Ginoli time to write a memoir titled Deflowered: My Life in Pansy Division. As one might expect, he doesn’t skimp on the tabloid material involving sex, drugs and band-vs.-label conflicts. That vivid coming-of-age story is also told in a new film titled Pansy Division: Life in a Gay Rock Band, which screens tonight at 9 alongside Ginoli’s solo performance and book reading at the Jackpot Saloon and Music Hall (943 Massachusetts in Lawrence, 785-832-1085). Lawrence songwriter Charles McVey will set the stage for this all-ages event.
