Heatin’ Up the Block

The Pitch Block Party at Crossroads KC at Grinders mashes together a handful of things we like: outdoor drinking during the day, good music, hair grease and, um, ourselves (in that order). Reverend Horton Heat anchors the six-band lineup with support from Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Split Lip Rayfield, Nekromantix, Dirtfoot and Rumblejetts. That’s rockabilly, roots rock, bluegrass, psychobilly, gypsy country punk and rockabilly (in that order). This is probably the most rockabilly-dense show KC will get this year — just make sure to reinforce the pompadour against the early evening sun. Tickets for the all-ages show run from $21.50 to $51.50 and can be had online at crossroadskc.com, in person at Grinders or the Bottleneck in Lawrence, or at the door (which opens at 5 p.m.). Crossroads KC at Grinders is located at 417 East 18th Street.
