Hauzparty

Chamber music was never intended to be performed in the echoing formal silence of concert and recital halls. For hundreds of years, these smaller pieces were enjoyed among friends in the chambers of private homes — hence the genre’s name. Since its founding 11 years ago by violinist Elizabeth Suh Lane (formerly of the London Symphony Orchestra), Bach Aria Soloists has specialized in presenting chamber programs (often featuring Bach works) in intimate settings. Lane refers to these house concerts by the German term hauskonzert. Conversational and convivial, the programs are preceded by drinks and an introductory chat and followed by a lively dinner reception, at which guests and musicians mingle. The Lerner Hauskonzert, featuring works by Monteverdi, Handel, Delibes and Klavier, takes place at 7 p.m. in a magnificent Tudor overlooking the Mission Hills Country Club. Tickets cost $65.
