Happy Mondays Update

I’m still struggling to reclaim my honor after telling everyone that the Happy Mondays were going to play the Grand Emporium on Wednesday night, but the club’s owners won’t return my calls. Let me state for the record that when I called the office Wednesday afternoon, I made the receptionist go and ask her boss whether the Happy Mondays that were billed to play really were THE Happy Mondays from Manchester who were big in the late ’80s, early ’90s. After being on hold for several minutes, the receptionist returned to the line with an affirmative answer. “He says it is,” were her exact words. You know from yesterday’s entry that (a) the band scheduled to play wasn’t even close to the real Happy Mondays, and (b) said band didn’t even play. I suppose by this logic, this anonymous Grand Emporium owner (who in this case is probably either Stuart Salomon or Jon Lunkwicz) could say that tonight, April 14, Oasis is playing Salsa night with DJ Kieko (but what will happen is that Springfield, Missouri, band the Happy Endings will be booked to play Oasis’s slot and not show up). But wait a minute! Seriously now, don’t take my word for it that tonight really is Salsa night with DJ Kieko; that’s just what the GE’s Web site says.
