Happy Birthday to George Brett’s Blowup

After maybe the ’85 World Series, there’s no better Royals highlight than July 24, 1983, otherwise known as the Pine Tar Incident.

It had everything you could want in sports. It was a great match-up, with the Yankees’ Goose Gossage on the mound and powder-blue-wearing George Brett at the plate. It had tension, with Brett’s first smack going foul and the second landing just into the stands in right field. It had drama, with Brett accused of cheating. And it had one fantastic blowup, with Brett simply freaking his shit out on the umps.
