Happy Anniversary

Just in case you forgot, we at The Pitch are in the middle of a celebration. The occasion: the 30th anniversary of our marriage to this fine metropolitan area, a relationship consummated in the basement of a Westport record store. Like all good unions, this one has included some drama. We just can’t help picking on sketchy politicians and generally calling bullshit when the need arises. Also, we know the coolest things to do with your free time. Let’s take the next four examples as one big suggestion and call it The Pitch Lost Weekend, ’cause it’s how we’re gonna honor this milestone. Call 816-645-9976 for table reservations tonight at Mosaic Lounge (1331 Walnut), where dubstep king Rusko brings the bass in a kickoff party for Friday’s Global Dance Festival at the Midland (1228 Main, 816-283-9900). Possibly Kansas City’s biggest DJ night ever, the festival features four stages ruled by the likes of Paul Van Dyk and BT. The beats begin at 8 p.m. Admission is $20-$40. Revive yourself Saturday at The Jones rooftop pool (1271 Main, 816-686-8960) during the Global Dance Fest Recovery Party, starting at 11 a.m. Just towel off in time for the Gaslight Anthem at the Midland at 8 p.m.— Crystal K.Wiebe
