Happy Activist Hour

On the third Thursday of every month, Human Rights Campaign members across the nation take a break from activism to booze it up. OK, that’s not entirely true. The LGBT community’s fight against discrimination dominates conversation, even on third Thursdays. But at least drink specials accompany the political talk. Tonight, the KC HRC convenes at Bar Natasha (1911 Main, 816-472-5300), the new location of its monthly happy hour. Membership Co-Chair Christene Main will briefly discuss HRC activities and then give the mic to a representative from AIDS Walk Kansas City. The invitation to join the April 28 walk won’t last long, though. “It’s more of a ‘how you can get involved in the community and make a difference,’” Main says of third Thursdays. “It’s not ‘come in for an hour lecture.’” Those who desire more information can pick up a pamphlet. Happy hour lasts from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and is open to anyone.
