Hairy Apes BMX

Q: Where does a 300-pound gorilla jam? A: Anywhere it wants. Former area percussionist and all-around slacker Mike Dillon (Garage a Trois, Malachy Papers, Les Claypool’s Frog Brigade, and at least another half-dozen bands, living and deceased) will make his latest swing through town with Hairy Apes BMX. Cut from the same swath of sonic experimentalism that has clothed groups at the forefront of the jam-jazz-electronica scene (such as Medeski, Martin and Wood, and DJ Logic), Hairy Apes features the sort of eclectic lineup that could work only in an anything-goes environment. These Apes don’t monkey around, deftly mixing Dillon’s vibes, tablas, percussion and vocals with E. Clarke’s keyboards and electronics, John Speice’s drums, J.J. Richards’ bass and Brad Houser’s sax.
