Guy Fieri, Henry Ford and Johnny Trigg to be inducted into the National Barbecue Hall of Fame

Stop me if you’ve heard the one about the automaker, pitmaster and celebrity chef who walked into the hall of fame. In a less controversial move than another Hall of Famous Missourians, The American Royal has announced this year’s inductees into the National Barbecue Hall of Fame: Henry Ford (for inventing the charcoal briquette), Johnny Trigg and Guy Fieri.
Ford was selected for his business accomplishments, while Trigg is this year’s pitmaster category selection, and Fieri is the celebrity selection. The honorees appear to be designed to raise the profile of the Hall of Fame by adding some nationally known names to the current seven inductees, who are likely best known on the barbecue circuit (including the founders of the Kansas City Barbecue Society). The American Royal is October 4 through 7 in the West Bottoms, and Trigg and Fieri are expected to attend an induction ceremony October 6. It’s hoped that this guy won’t show up.
