Guitar Geek-Out
Kansas City offers a plethora of big-box music retailers, but it’s a bit out of tune with the vintage side of things. This weekend, however, an eBay’s worth of lovingly used instruments will be for sale at the Kansas City Guitar and String Show. The first-time event boasts 50 retailers from across the country selling guitars, amps, violins, mandolins and accessories. Organizer Scott Hambrick envisions the event as an Antiques Roadshow for musicians, with equal opportunity for selling and buying. Visit Antique Electronics Supply to fix that busted tube amp or jam on a bizarre PorchBoard Bass (triggered by foot tapping) to pass the time while others woodshed. Doors are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Sunday at the Overland Park International Trade Center (6800 West 115th Street, 913-451-7691). Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6 to 15. Just remember: no “Stairway.”
