Grupo Muralla

Kansas City is known for being a crossroads for the urban aesthetics of jazz and the traditional flavor of rural blues. More recently, however, the syncopated sounds emanating from our very own vibrant Hispanic community has found its way into the city’s jazz clubs, infusing the scene with renewed vitality. Fueled by a fiery fusion of jazz, rock, salsa, merengue and more, KC’s own Grupo Muralla has proven to be one of the most exhilarating acts around. Standing tall behind the group’s frontman, Ulises Torres, is a pan-ethnic ensemble of musicians, each bringing his talent to bear on a style of music that is both unique and broadly inclusive. Although KC is far from becoming the Miami of the Midwest, ensembles such as Grupo Muralla are doing quite a bit to make the scene a little more tropical.
