Green Lady Lounge has a traffic accident, reopens tonight

  • And, yes, it was a hit-and-run accident. Sort of.

If you had made plans to attend tonight’s Halloween party at the Green Lady Lounge at 1809 Grand, don’t be put off by the boarded-up windows in front of the club. Yes, the nightclub is still open; it survived an early Thursday-morning accident when a pickup truck was hit by a black Escalade (which, Green Lady Lounge owner John Scott says, left the scene of the crime) and then smashed into the front window of the venue at midnight.

No one was seriously hurt says Scott. But he says that drummer Kevin Frazee, playing at the front of the house, was literally thrown off of his drum stool into the wreckage.

“Things were really rocking in the club when it happened,” Scott says. “Mark Lowrey and the band were playing the jazz version of ‘Layla.’ And then, suddenly…”

“It was crazy,” Lowrey says. “I was proud to see John Scott instantly go into action making sure everyone was safe. Even though the wreck looked pretty bad, I got the text this morning that our gig is on for tonight.”

Scott confirms that tonight’s party is still on. “I’m telling people that for this night only, we’re the Zombie Lounge since the building looks abandoned right now from the outside.”

Mark Lowery, Dominque Sanders and Ryan Lee are onstage tonight from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.
