Green Gals

Now that there’s so much federal cash floating around, aimed at making the United States more energy-efficient and eco-friendly, the University of Central Missouri wants to make sure plenty of women pluck the financial fruit from the new green economy. To that end, UCM is working with the Women’s Bureau of the U.S. Department of Labor to create the Evergreen Project, an effort to inform and employ area women in environmental efforts such as home weatherization and community gardening. To get grounded, today’s kickoff, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the YWCA (1017 North Sixth Street in Kansas City, Kansas) starts with a little inspiration from environmental expert Althea Moses, who will give a talk titled “Going Green 101.” More important, though, interested women can sign up for the project’s second phase: an extended job-training program starting later this fall.
