Cedric Burnside to bring Hill Country Love to Knuckleheads this weekend
Cedric Burnside—GRAMMY-winning blues artist—will be performing at Knuckleheads on June 16.
Burnside mentioned in an interview with The Rolling Stone that he was able to incorporate more of his own songs after winning the GRAMMY for “I Be Trying” in 2022. His recent record Hill Country Love is an expression of that freedom.
“All of it is original work, except for three songs,” says Burnside. “About three songs I put in there as a tribute to my Big Daddy and the guys I grew up listening to, like Mississippi Fred McDowell. Just about every song on there is original.”
When Burnside mentions his “Big Daddy,” he is referring to his grandfather—legendary Hill Country blues singer R.L. Burnside.
During his song “Hill Country Love” states, “Now I’m gonna, gonna spread a little bit of Hill Country love.” Burnside believes this is his calling vocation.
“I want to spread love,” Burnside says. “I’m always looking to spread positive vibes and I hope people can receive it, as well as me receiving positive vibes from them. My main goal is definitely to spread love and positivity.”
Burnside is happy that Hill Country blues artists are beginning to get more recognition.
Hill Country Love features 14 songs that capture the essence of Hill Country blues. The album was released on April 5, 2024. You can catch Cedric Burnside in action beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 16. Tickets are available here.
