Sure, locals can hold their own answering questions about the 1991 Chicago Bulls on the sports trivia game at the local watering hole. But what do they know about their hometown teams? Watch them in all their “that’s what I was going to say” glory at the Kansas City Sports Trivia Contest, which involves local celebrity appearances and prizes only a sports fan could appreciate. The top package includes a private tour of Arrowhead Stadium with Lamar Hunt (if you don’t know who he is, you’d be well advised to lay low at this event), VIP tailgating and suite seats for the August 16 benefit game against the Vikings. Participants, study up; this is no time for bravado. Everyone already knows that the Chiefs lost the first Super Bowl to the Packers in 1967. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the game starts at 7 at the Pavilion at Arrowhead Stadium. The spectator fee is $5; proceeds benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City and the Don Bosco Community Center. For more information, call 816-691-2914.— Sarah Smarsh
Northeastward, Ho!

If your idea of outdoor appreciation involves more scenic views and rolling hills than gruntworthy levels of exertion, Cliff Drive is your kind of place. Overlooking the Missouri River’s industrial East Bottoms, it’s carved out of limestone bluffs and surrounded by lush, green areas offering maples, ferns, wild ginger, Solomon’s seal, dogtooth violet and lots of honeysuckle. Testimony comes from hikers, bikers, rollerbladers and the laziest of sportsmen: drivers. But the benches along the way are most readily enjoyed by people who don’t have to find a safe place to park their precious vehicles. For the less adventurous, walking through Kessler Park (Missouri Avenue and Woodland) offers a glimpse of the scene — and a basketball court. Cliff Drive can be entered at Benton and Gladstone Boulevards.— Gina Kaufmann
Run, Dog, Run
Wiener dogs bust loose at the track.

Dachshunds aren’t so different from greyhounds, really. Stick a large, sleek hound in a Mini-Me machine and take some length off the legs, and you’ve got yourself a wiener dog. So it’s no surprise that this aerodynamic if stubby-legged breed races around the Woodlands track this weekend for the Wiener Dog Nationals. These “low, slow and ready-to-go” canines run eight qualifying heats on Sunday afternoon, chasing the glory of being crowned grand champion among the winners. The stands themselves should provide entertainment; the venue has deemed it necessary to post the following nonjoke warning on its Web site: “Sorry — no spectator canines allowed.” Post time is 1 p.m. Admission is free at the Woodlands, near I-435 and Leavenworth Road in Kansas City, Kansas.
