Go Brass Alice

Lewis Carroll’s famous literary heroine, Alice, gets a steampunk makeover in writer-director Alex Espy’s production of Alice in Wonderland, which continues at 7 and 10 p.m. tonight (and at 2 and 4 p.m. September 26-27) at the Off Center Theatre in Crown Center (2450 Grand). “Steampunk,” Espy explains, “is an amalgamation of Victorian style with a very contemporary feel — it let us create our own Wonderland. It will be an Alice like no one has seen before.” Indeed, Espy has adapted Carroll’s 1865 book with no visual connection to the famous John Tenniel illustrations of Alice and company. The hourlong show — suitable for children and adults — isn’t a musical, though it does feature music and dancing. Tonight’s 10 p.m. “night owl” performance is the only one of the show’s run that includes a cash bar. For additional show times and ticket information, call 816-842-9999.
