Go Ahead, Laugh

Yeah, yeah, we know what you’re thinking: Carrot Top? You’re honestly recommending that we see that unfunny, prop-tossing, eyeliner-sporting, potentially plastic-surgery-getting, oddly orange-hued, frighteningly muscled, collect-call-pitching weirdo? Well, you just hold your hatin’ right there. First of all, the recent Flava Flav roaster also known as Scott Thompson doesn’t do those commercials anymore. Second, his live show is an adept and fast-paced mix of video, music, lighting effects, costumes, physicality, witty one-liners and, yes, those wacky inventions. He skewers pop culture and politics with equal aplomb. And even his pandering moments are good-naturedly tongue-in-cheek. All in all, the 1994 American Comedy Awards’ Best Male Stand-Up puts on a surprisingly hilarious, rock-and-roll-influenced performance, which serves as a victory for once-nerdy red-headed stepchildren everywhere. Mr. Top headlines Ameristar Casino’s Star Pavilion (3200 North Ameristar Drive) tonight at 8. Tickets are $20 to $45. Call 816-414-7000 for more information.
