Gil Meche expands on decision to forsake (gulp!) $12 million
Pitcher Gil Meche made the Royals relevant this offseason by walking away from the final year of his $55 million contract. Meche stopped pitching effectively in 2009, and he feels he doesn’t deserve any more money. “When I signed my contract, my main goal was to earn it,” he told The New York Times.
The Times story adds context to Meche’s decision. Dude appears to be dealing with a very complicated family situation: He is divorced, and he has children living in two different states.
