Get in the Pit

One of the remaining independently owned bookstores in Kansas City is also one of the few places in town to hear — or deliver — live poetry. The 13-year-old Prospero’s Books (1800 West 39th Street), owned by published writers Will Leatham and Tom Wayne, puts on a salon-style open-mic night called Prospero’s Pit the fourth Sunday of every month. Tonight’s round starts at 6 p.m. and features a reading by local poet Abigail Beaudelle. Cover is $3 at the door. For more information, call 816-531-9673.
