Gestapo: a No-No

As youngsters, most people learn their ABCs, that they should call 911 in an emergency and that the police are their friends. But once you get a little older and rack up a few speeding tickets, the police can start seeming more like punishers than pals. That’s when a little citizen knowledge can go a long way.Learn how to deal with law enforcement tonight at the screening of These Streets Are Watching at Solidarity Revolutionary Center & Radical Library (1109 Massachusetts, Lawrence). The film examines police accountability by documenting how different communities around the nation have responded to police brutality. Using real-world examples, These Streets also explains citizens’ basic rights when dealing with police and how to monitor and document police conduct. The free, all-ages screening begins at 5 p.m. For more information, call 785-865-1374 or see lawrencesoli darity.org.
