George Brett likes his judges like he likes his umpires

Hey, kids. George Brett wants you to vote against electing judges in Johnson County. Today a Pitch editor received a robo call from the empty-boweled ballplayer.

“Hi, I’m George Brett, and I’m calling to ask you to vote on Johnson County question No. 1. Let’s keep politics and money out of the courts. On the baseball field, all I want is a fair umpire. Umpires are like judges, and I don’t want an umpire or a judge who owes political favors to the other team. Please vote no on question one on November 4. Thank you.”

I called the campaign’s chair, Greg Musil, to see how he landed Rush Limbaugh’s boy Brett for his no vote campaign. We’ll let you know what he says.

Update: Musil tells The Pitch that a local attorney was discussing election issues with Brett and electing judges came up.

“George wanted to help, and we all thought this would be a great way to get the message out that everybody ought to want a fair umpire, not somebody who’s already decided that he’s leaning toward one team or the other,” Musil says. “And so George agreed to do this. I think it makes the message pretty clear and understandable to people.”
