genuine heart

Elgin Lumpkin knows something about sprucing up. He traded his dowdy name for the sleeker Ginuwine as he embarked on an R&B career. The man best known for the sultry 1990s hit “Pony” has since turned his attention to more charitable endeavors. Ginuwine and his wife, Sole, are co-founders of the S.P.R.U.C.E. Foundation (the acronym stands for Special People Requiring Unique Care Equally), a new nonprofit that provides assistance for mentally and physically challenged adults. The organization and Ginuwine land in downtown Kansas City for the 8 p.m. Arabian Nights, a charity fashion show at the Jones rooftop pool (10 East 13th Street). Celebrity stylist Travis Cal is on hand to spruce up models and boutiques. Tickets cost $20 ($50 for VIP), with proceeds benefiting S.P.R.U.C.E. See sprucekc.com for more details.— Crystal K. Wiebe
