Genuine Assist

Baseball cynics would say the Royals are charity cases. However, when the Royals take the field against the Chicago White Sox at 7:10 p.m., real charities get assistance in the stands of Kauffman Stadium (Interstate 70 and the Blue Ridge Cutoff, 816-504-4040). This is both “Girls Night Out” and “50/50 Friday.” Ticket packages for the former benefit breast cancer foundation Susan G. Komen for the Cure and range from $25 to $34; they include a Royals cap and a $5 donation to the charity. (Game tickets also may be purchased without the charity package for $9 and up.) Entries to the “50/50 Friday” drawing — a monthly raffle event benefiting a select local nonprofit organization — cost a dollar. Half of the kitty goes to a lucky winner, and the other half goes to this month’s beneficiary, the Down Syndrome Guild. Cynics be damned. The Royals are being charitable with more than just late-inning leads.
