Gay Pride parade canceled

Demonstrating gay pride is tough in Kansas City this year. Having already suffered a change in venue from Penn Valley Park to Berkley Riverfront Park, Kansas City Gay Pride announced today that there will be no parade.

“The logistics of moving it, along with unexpected increase of cost — specifically police — made it impossible for us to do,” said Pride president Rick Bumgardner said.

The parade was supposed to happen next Sunday, June 6. The rest of the celebration, including all festivities at Berkley Riverfront Park are scheduled to go on as planned. Although audibly bummed by the difficulties that his event has faced this year, Bumgardner seemed hopeful. “I think it will be fine,” he said.
