Gallery on Campus

The term “assisted-living home” may conjure depressing images of elderly folks watching TV in drab surroundings. But Village Shalom in Overland Park gives its residents — and the public — something more stimulating to focus on: art. The Epsten Gallery, a project of the Kansas City Jewish Museum Foundation, is a contemporary gallery space housed on the Village Shalom campus. Now on display at the gallery: Billings, Montana, artist Andrew Schell’s multimedia exhibit Organism. Schell’s two-dimensional works incorporate painting, sculpture and video. They comment on life in the information age and on the blurry line between public and private. Organism is on display through January 20; the artist will give a slide lecture that day. In the meantime, the Epsten Gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. It’s at 5500 West 123rd Street. Call 913-266-8413 for information.
