“With this decision, we take on the responsibility to get involved in JaRon Rush’s success, just as he’s committed to his success as a professional basketball player and a person. We didn’t make this decision lightly.”
— Jim Clark, owner of the Kansas City Knights ABA team, after signing Rush to the team’s practice squad last week, The Kansas City Star
“When Jim Clark came to me, he said, ‘Let’s do what’s right for this kid.’ We feel the Kansas City Knights can do that for him. We’re going to put him on the practice squad, get him in shape. More than anything, we want to get his life back on track. We want to provide a home and security, and we feel the Kansas City Knights can do that for him.”
— Kevin Pritchard, head coach of the Kansas City Knights, The Star
GH: Just once in Rush’s life, I’d like to see an adult really do what’s best for this young man. JaRon has no business being on a professional basketball team — especially in a dead-end league like the ABA. He has shown neither the skills nor the work ethic required to succeed in professional sports. If Clark and Pritchard truly want to help this 22-year-old has-been, they should get him enrolled in college and tell him to study.
“Rate the interview and Carl’s performance.”
— Jason Whitlock, asking WHB 810 listeners to comment on his interview with Carl Peterson, 810whb.com
GH: The friendly rapport these two now share after their long feud made this interview a snooze. Whitlock asked King Carl what music he plays in his car, what KC restaurants he frequents and where he buys his clothes. Read on for one 810 listener’s critique of Whitlock’s interview with Peterson.
