“They’re going to play baseball this year, and then beyond this year, all bets are off. They [the owners and players] don’t know how to get a deal done.”
John Rooney, former Missouri play-by-play broadcaster and current voice of the Chicago White Sox, WHB 810

“I know it might happen. But I’m not afraid of it. My hope is that it doesn’t happen.”

“I think the Royals are vindicated there. I think that was a good trade.”
Steven St. John, on the Royals’ decision to trade Johnny Damon before last season, 810

GH: Damon passed on a five-year $35 million offer from the Royals and a year later signed a $31 million deal with the Red Sox for four years. That is a difference of $750,000 a year. The Royals will spend the next decade trying to replace Damon’s talent at the top of their lineup while he spends it competing for pennants. Trading Damon for Roberto Hernandez remains one of the dumbest moves of the Glass era.

“Unfortunately, I think the media painted Johnny [Damon] to be some greedy guy who wanted the world. I don’t think he did. He was just asking for a chance to play for a winner. Now he’s in Boston on a team that’s probably going to spend $100 million a year to try and bring that winning team he wanted.”
Mike Sweeney, 980

“We need Mike Sweeney to want us. Otherwise we’re just Wichita with a better dog track.”
Dave Stewart, Metro Sports

“Hell yes, I’m jealous! I’m short, I’m fat and I’m no good at sports. I’m jealous of everybody!”
Soren Petro, after a caller accused him of being jealous of professional athletes’ salaries, 980

Bill Maas: “The penalty for masturbation in Indonesia is decapitation.”

Tim Grunhard: “Decapitation of what?”
