Further Review
“Baseball would have never been the same if we had walked out.”
— Steve Kline, St. Louis Cardinals’ player representative, the Associated Press
GH: That’s what I was hoping for. The new four-year agreement between the players’ union and the owners simply means more of the same for the Kansas City Royals.
“I always hold Kansas City to a higher esteem than these idiots on the East Coast that scream and yell and throw things on the field and are cursing at the players and get personal saying things. I was just a little disappointed. I didn’t like it. Don’t go asking these [Royals] players for their autograph anymore. Because if I was a player, I wouldn’t give it to you. You stepped on their toes, and they’re pissed and I don’t blame them for being pissed.”
— Tim Grunhard, after the fan protest at the K organized by WHB 810 last week infuriated some Royals players, 810
GH: For one night, some Royals fans let their team know that they were fed up with the state of baseball and the ineptness of the Royals organization. My only problem with the protest was that it was just one night.
“In his infinite wisdom, God finally needed to take his child home. Now, Darrell’s got all the answers. And all of us left behind — we’re trying to figure it out. His testimony was strengthened by this.”
— Jerry Terrell, a former teammate and close friend of Darrell Porter, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch
GH: Isn’t that sweet? Porter now has all the answers after dying from cocaine abuse. Almost makes you want to drive to Sugar Creek and smoke a rock.
“No one cares about auto racing. It’s the WWF. No one takes it seriously.”
— Jason Whitlock, 810
GH: NASCAR is the fastest growing sport in America, and the Kansas Speedway is one of our town’s biggest tourist attractions. Whitlock, on the other hand, our marathon man, is simply growing fast.
“[Tim] Grunhard has an ND tattooed on his ass. The first time I saw it in the shower, I told him I thought it stood for No Dick.”
— Bill Maas, 810
