“I believe Ahman Green is the best back in the NFL. That’s just what I believe.”

Bill Maas, choosing the Packers’ Green over Priest Holmes, WHB 810

GH: Green is a great back but he has Brett Favre in his backfield to force defense to respect the deep-passing game. Holmes is crafting his incredible season despite playing against defenses that have no respect for the Chiefs’ wide receivers. Without Holmes, the Chiefs are the Bengals and Trent Green is a bigger bust than Steve Bono.

“This is a tough question. I said earlier that I was going to do that, and now I’m having some sort of mixed emotions and stuff. I wish I could just split it right down the middle.”
Marcus Allen, after Jason Whitlock asked him if he still planned on being inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame as a Chief, 810

GH: During Allen’s playing days in Kansas City, he always maintained that he would enter the Hall of Fame wearing a Chiefs jersey. It now appears that the local car dealer is heading into Canton wearing black and silver.

“His black Suburban is parked in the driveway; Elvis [Grbac] is home. There are a thousand reasons to go knock on his door. There are so many questions to ask, like: ‘Why’d you quit?’ and ‘Do you hate Kansas City?’ Your boss wants you to do it. He might go ballistic if you don’t…. What to do? There’s only one thing to do. The right thing. You turn the car back toward the airport and leave.”
Wright Thompson, The Kansas City Star

GH: Thompson, a Missouri grad, is a new sportswriter for the Star who traveled to Ohio recently to do a where-is-he-now story on the Chiefs’ former quarterback. Almost 2,000 words into his article, Thompson reveals that he never even knocked on Grbac’s door for an interview. Wright could not have been more wrong.

“I’m proud of Esera Tuaolo. By coming out to the world, he did something a lot of guys would never have the guts to do. Knowing that he’s gay, it doesn’t change anything … I have to admit, if I knew an openly gay guy was in the shower, I would not be in a rush to go in there.”
LeRoy Butler, former Green Bay Packer, after Tuaolo announced he was gay, ESPN.com
