Further Review
“I’m here to tell you that I think [the Chiefs] will get buried by the San Francisco 49ers. They still have the worst defense in the National Football League. I don’t think this team turned a corner.”
— Soren Petro, KMBZ 980
“Johnny Morton has been the biggest jerk to me of any player. He has hands down been the biggest A-hole to me of any Chiefs player in the four years that I’ve been covering the Chiefs.” — Steven St. John, on the wide receiver the Chiefs acquired from Detroit in the off-season, WHB 810
GH: I don’t know why Morton would have a problem with St. John or WHB. St. John is far from confrontational when interviewing athletes. If anything, he’s more fan than journalist when talking to a Chiefs or Royals player. Morton comes off as very polite and soft-spoken in his TV interviews. If Morton wants to see real disgust, he should contact those fantasy-football owners who drafted him.
“As dumb as this sounds, I think a three-point lead is better than a six-point lead.”
— Kevin Kietzman, arguing that the Chiefs are better off when the opposition isn’t forced to attempt a touchdown, 810
GH: As dumb as this sounds, I actually listen to this guy’s show.
“I’m not so sure I wouldn’t want to have [Tony Muser] back in light of what we have [in Tony Peña].”
— Kietzman, 810
GH: And you thought his three-point-lead comment was dense.
“We’re here visiting with Esera Tuaolo. He’s gay, and he’s virtually been gay all of his life.”
— Kevin Kiley, syndicated talk-show host, interviewing the former Green Bay Packer who recently came out, Fox Sports Radio
GH: Substitute the word Samoan for the word gay, and you’ll get a feeling for how ridiculous Kiley’s comment is.
“Kansas, apparently looking ahead to Nebraska next week, loses to Kansas State 64-0.”
— Terry Connealy, color analyst, reading the Big-12 football scores during the Texas-Nebraska broadcast, Nebraska Radio Network
