Further Review

“Tony Gonzalez is supposed to be the best tight end in football, and [49ers defender] Julian Peterson just dominated him all day long. You’ve got a guy who is supposed to be the best, and he can’t get open? We always hear about him being double teamed and triple teamed. No, [Sunday] he was not double teamed. Peterson just blanketed him. If you’re the best tight end in football and you’re making all that money, you’ve got to step up, get open and make some plays.”
Jayice Pearson, after Gonzalez was held to one reception for six yards against San Francisco, Metro Sports

GH: Carl Peterson spent $31.5 million during the off-season to sign Gonzo to what will probably be a five-year contract. He is a very good tight end, but tight ends are not difference makers in the NFL. Having the NFL’s best tight end is about as valuable as having the league’s best fullback. Neither touches the ball enough to get you where you need to go.

“As bad as I want to feel, I still feel positive about some of the things we did. It’s still one of those things where I can see so many positives. We have so many things to look forward to, and I think it’s all going to come together for us.”
Duane Clemons, after the Chiefs’ 17-13 loss in San Francisco, Chiefs Radio Network

GH: The Chiefs sit at 4-5 and realistically need to finish with a 5-1 run to make the playoffs. Maybe Clemons is talking about next year…but aren’t we all a little tired of that talk around here?

“Welcome back to Duane Clemons. I think he’s been hanging out with Johnny Morton.”
Gordon Docking, after Clemons recorded a sack Sunday and Morton went without a reception, KCFX 101.1

“You understand that it’s tongue-in-cheek?”
Kevin Kietzman, to Chiefs defensive tackle Derrick Ransom, after Ransom mentioned his displeasure with Kietzman’s referring to the Chiefs’ defense as the “32 Defense” because it’s ranked No. 32 in the NFL, WHB 810

GH: Siegfried and Roy would love the way Kietzman rolls on his back and spreads all fours while interviewing athletes whom he has previously dissed.
