Further Review
“The world is falling, according to all Kansas fans … now that they’ve lost two games [to North Carolina and Florida]. I’ve never seen a Roy Williams team play that poorly. The thing that surprised me most was the dirty laundry that was being aired after the losses. You never, ever hear that coming out of the Kansas locker room, because they’re usually so tight [lipped].”
— Chris Piper, former KU player and current Jayhawk television analyst, after Roy Williams and Kirk Hinrich mentioned their unhappiness with the attitudes and actions of some of the Kansas players, WHB 810
“These two Kansas losses were a little bit different than last year’s loss to Ball State. They got it handed to them in these two losses. A lot of people are saying some of these guys aren’t Roy Williams’ kind of guys.”
— Bill Maas, 810
“That was the most embarrassed I’ve ever been as a coach.”
— Roy Williams, after KU’s 67-56 loss to UNC, New York Daily News
GH: After the loss to Florida, Williams wasn’t his typical angry self, lashing out verbally at his players. Instead, he appeared to be trying to build his team’s confidence back up with positive words. This tells me he may be very concerned about his club’s chemistry.
“It took me to go back to the high-school ranks to get a championship ring, but I got one.”
— Tim Grunhard, former Chiefs center and current assistant coach at Pius X, after Pius recovered from its 0-3 start to win the Class 2 Missouri state title last week, 810
“I really don’t know, and I really don’t care what Carl Peterson thinks of me. I really don’t. Our job [at 810] is our listeners. I don’t work for Carl Peterson. Carl Peterson tried to get me fired many times. He’s tried to get everybody in this business fired. Everybody is on to their act now. They try to manipulate the media — the press, the television and the radio.”
— Jack Harry, 810
“Uh, no.”
— Bill Maas, when asked this week if he still considered Green Bay’s Ahman Green a better running back than the Chiefs’ Priest Holmes, 810
“He called me a cheap-shot motherfucker.”
— Warren Sapp, on what started his altercation with Green Bay’s coach, Mike Sherman, HBO
