From the Mixed-up Files of You

As a kid, did you ever dream about getting locked inside the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (4525 Oak, 816-751-1278) and having crazy adventures late at night? Well, forget it, Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler — this is real life, and the museum has security guards and motion detectors. Once you put aside your juvenile fantasies about running away, there’s a better — by which we mean legal — way to become acquainted with Kansas City’s world-class art museum: Nelson-
Atkins NOW! tours, guided by a team of trained volunteers, beginning at 11:15 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and at 2:15 p.m. Sunday. Covering the entire museum, from the original 1933 structure through the new Bloch Building, the tours require no reservation. Plus, if you’d like to take volunteer training to become a guide, contact Susan Spencer at sspencer@nels on-atkins.org.
