From Autumn to Ashes

There are a lot of phrases to describe From Autumn to Ashes‘ rise to stardom — bumpy ride and dark horse come to mind — but fairy tale certainly isn’t one of them. After all, in the egocentric world of metalcore, doing something different can be the key to success or a recipe for disaster. Unfortunately for FATA, its emo-anthem-over-blistering-hardcore split personality puts the band in both camps. With song titles such as “Chloroform Perfume” and rabbit-punch drum assaults — not to mention Benjamin Perri, one of the screamiest screamers in the genre — the band has made a big impression on the metal world. But it’s the haunting melodies of vocalist and drummer Francis Mark that have created adversaries (the group abandoned this summer’s Sounds of the Underground Tour because, Mark told Alternative Press, “we’re not really converting many people”) and earned the band allies in unexpected places — including its label, emo powerhouse Vagrant Records.
