Friday Freebies

And once again, we bring you Friday Freebies, wherein we present things to do this weekend that won’t cost you any more than the gas it takes to get to ’em.
Today’s big event (and one the only free events of note this weekend) is the groundbreaking party for the Town of Kansas Pedestrian Bridge. The party starts at 4:00 p.m., and there will be holiday music and refreshments. RSVP here.
Of course, if you’re not into walking a 650-foot bridge along the Missouri River, you can head to Lawrence, and get a copy of the ESPN College Basketball Encyclopedia signed by University of Basketball coach Bill Self. The book is said to be the first authoritative compendium of men’s college basketball history. It’s a MASSIVE tome, weighing in at 1200+ pages and over five pounds, and will run you a cool fifty bucks. It gets going at 6:00 p.m. inside KU’s Oread Books, located within the Kansas Union.
Also in Lawrence this weekend are the final games of the Bleeding Kansas Dodgeball league‘s current season. Come watch grown adults throw balls at each other and trash talk. It’s about the same crowd as plays kickball, but this is inside, and there’s less running involved. It gets kicking at the East Lawrence Rec Center at 6:00 p.m.
