Free State releases Festivus Ale in five Johnson County spots Tuesday, December 23

The brewers at Free State Brewing Co. must be Seinfeld fans. The Lawrence-based brewery is releasing Festivus Ale — named for the holiday for the rest of us and popularized by the Costanza family’s airing of grievances and feats of strength — on Tuesday, December 23.

Festivus will tap all day at BRGR (4038 West 83rd Street, Prairie Village), Burg & Barrel (7042 West 76th Street, Overland Park) and all three Barley’s Brewhaus locations (11924 West 119th Street, Overland Park; 5031 West 135th Street, Leawood; 16649 Midland Drive, Shawnee). No word on whether each location will also get the traditional pole or wrestling matches with the heads of household.

Here’s Free State’s description of this rare beer: “This hoppy celebration of the season balances the bold, citrus, pine and floral flavors of Chinook, Centennial and Cascade hops with biscuit-like, toasty flavors from fine English & German malts. Deep red, medium-bodied, yet dry to the finish, this holiday ale is the perfect winter warmer for those that prefer hoppy, bold IPAs.”

Sounds like something we’d gladly drink by the pole after pinning dad.
