Free EP: Matthew & Michael at Christmas

Hark, everybody!

Earlier this week, I received a Facebook message from Matt Dunehoo, former frontman of the once-great Doris Henson. I hadn’t heard from Matt in a while. Shortly after Doris broke up in the fall of ’07, he moved to Brooklyn, NY, where he’s been recording and playing around town as Baby Teardrops.

It seems that back when DH was still together, Matt and his bandmate Mike Walker (who now plies his trombone for Olympic Size and the Sex Police), recorded a handful of Christmas classics one winsome winter.

Writes Matt:

Years ago me and Mr. Walker got together and recorded some Christmas music, some traditional, Christmas standards on acoustic guitar, trombone and voice, as a gift for me to give out to my family on CD, with holiday artwork (designed at Hallmark) and everything. It was the most fun I’d ever had preparing or presenting presents, and I think they turned out sounding pretty “pro” (in that indie-credible way of course.) Thanks again, Mike. My grandparents have that thing going 24-7 round now. 🙂

Matt and Mike asked if I’d like to share those songs as “a holiday gift of sorts” to readers and hell yes I would! They’re lo-fi, indeed, but quite charming — warm and friendly and unpretentious. Just two guys, a basic multitrack recorder and the Christmas spirit.

Your grandparents will like it.

I’m officially taking the liberty of calling this an EP and christening it Matthew & Michael at Christmas by the (non-existent) group Matthew & Michael. Download the tracks individually or in a single zip file via the links below.
