Damn, Frank’s North Star Tavern in Lawrence is closing

Franks’s North Star Tavern is closing, ownership announced today on Facebook:

We had been talking with some prospective buyers but it recently fell through. Since my bicycle accident, I have been unable to give the business the attention necessary to maintain its viability. Owning this bar has been an amazing ride and I will miss you all, but my family and I are ready for a new chapter in our lives.

The north Lawrence dive has hosted live music, trivia, pool games, cheap drinks, and good times since opening seven years ago. The location was previously the Latino Si nightclub. Before that, it was a place where you could see a cockfight, according to our 2014 appreciation of Frank’s.

On May 4, the bar will celebrate its seventh birthday and final show — “Franks for the Memories” — with The Mad Kings, Til Willis, and Hidden Planets. It will close in “mid-May,” according to the post.
