Four on the Floor

Which sound is sweeter, the rumble of a classic American muscle car or the smooth progressions of a jazz quartet? Thankfully, you don’t have to pick. Instead, you can listen to Mingus in your Mustang on the way to North Kansas City’s Second Saturdays. The 2011 festival season kicks off today at 1900 Fayette, just south of Armour Road in NKC’s historic downtown. The Northtown Art Market, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., features more than 20 local artists and live jazz music by the Tom Pendergast Quartet. Gearheads can take in the classic-car show, with everything from ’50s muscle engines to rat rods, beginning at 3 p.m. The event is free. Second Saturdays continue through September. For more information, see nkc.org.

Second Saturday of every month, 11 a.m. Starts: May 14. Continues through Sept. 11, 2011
