Four Inane Questions with The HOLISPA’s Karen Ann Webster
If you’re hesitantly headed into 2024 and wondering what’s in store for the year ahead, Karen Ann Webster’s got your back.
For the last five years, Webster has been helping people crack the code to their unique potential. As the founder of The HOLISPA, she’s determined to help folks focus on their holistic health, wellness, and personal expansion.
Now based in KC, the NY native and entrepreneur extraordinaire says, “the HOLISPA philosophy is a holistic one that works from the inside out.” And it starts with Webster reading your bio-energetic SOULPRINT, which is designed to embrace the potential of your energies.
Eager to transform your problems into possibilities in the coming year? Reach out to Webster to get the ball rolling and/or get out of your god-awful 2023 rut.
We caught up with the radio host and spiritual guru over coffee to ping her with our own woo-woo whackadoo questionnaire. She let us know the who, what, where, and Zen.
The Pitch: What is the dumbest rule you’ve ever been forced to follow?
Karen Ann Webster: During freshman orientation, my first year at college, they mentioned, “Oh, by the way, you must pass a swimming test in order to graduate—and you have to pass it as a freshman.”
For most people, this was not a big deal, but I was freaking out because I was not a good swimmer. In fact, I had cheated on my swimming test when I was 12. (I walked across the bottom while convincingly moving my arms). I thought—no, I knew—it would never be an issue again!
Imagine my surprise when I went to school in Ithaca. New York. In the mountains. So, I took the swimming test in a 12-foot deep pool and spectacularly almost drowned in front of my classmates. They had to fish me out. I ended up having to take a swimming class that fall semester, two times a week for three months. Brrrrrrr.
If you were a dessert, what would you be?
I love dessert. It would have to be an ice cream sundae with pineapple, walnuts, chia seeds to make it a little healthier, and lots and lots of whipped cream.
Oh, and sea salt is a must-have—it kicks up the sweetness. I put salt on all my sweets. I love the combination, along with the crunchy texture of the nuts and the softness of the whipped cream. It’s like a great movie with all your favorite stars in it! And, occasionally, caramel will make a cameo appearance.
Did you open presents under the tree before Christmas? Did you get caught?
I don’t remember ever opening them, but I did keep a sharp lookout for presents appearing under the tree. I remember one year when I was about eight, the tree went up right after Thanksgiving, but no gifts were showing up. When asked, my parents were like, “We’ll see!”
Well, I was beside myself waiting. Finally, on Christmas Eve, they arrived. I do remember paying attention to the size, weight, and shakeability of each package. I also remember counting how many there were. And, of course, counting how many my brother had, too—to make sure I was not behind.
What is your favorite unsolved mystery?
When I was in high school, my best friend and I were always up to something and always cracking each other up. In my HS yearbook, she wrote a whole, long thing, then at the end, she wrote, “and we’ll never forget ‘SQUAT!” And we can hear ourselves saying it, like a response to something ridiculously funny.
Around 20 years ago, we were reading it, and neither one of us can remember what it meant. We can’t remember squat. Pun intended.
