When the new season of The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula was announced in September, the Kansas City drag community was shaken. Turns out, one of the creepy-kooky, spooky-kooky contestants hails from the metro. Introducing Jaharia, who’s been turning some ghoulish looks week after week as she battles for the title of World’s Next Drag Supermonster.

The horror-themed drag competition series—which airs on the AMC-owned streaming service Shudder—is now in its sixth season. Viewers will spy Jaharia duking it out against eleven other frightful queens for scary supremacy. “Expect high camp and high glamour,” she recently said during a show interview.

The local drag star—whose name means dignified queen in Swahili—is also the drag daughter of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 12 contestant Widow Von’Du.

We kibitzed with the self-proclaimed party animal recently while she was doing press for the show. We’re glad she had time to dish, given that spooky season is in full effect this month. Bless.

The Pitch: Admit it, what’s the best Halloween costume you’ve ever worn?

Jaharia: The best costume I’ve ever worn? It would have to be my Powerpuff Girls’ Him costume! It was really my first time in public in full makeup and a dress! I also entered a costume contest and got second place, so I was feeling good that night.

What’s the highest heel you can safely wear without falling to your doom?

Probably six inches. I have worn and walked in larger ones, but I did feel like I was going down at any moment. I’ve definitely fallen to my doom multiple times.

If you could create—and be the editor of—a magazine, what would it be?

It would be called Clownery—and it would be a magazine based on exposing people. I would do this because sometimes people are just shitty and need to be told the truth.

Out of all the boy bands/girl groups in the world, who is your absolute mostest favoritest member?

It would have to be Zayne from One Direction! Mainly ’cause I thought he was so cute growing up. He seemed really cool, and I liked his vibe.

Bonus 5th Question: You get a free vacation. What tropical island are you choosing?

Probably Jamaica. It looks really cool and pretty. Jamaican food here is really good, so I imagine that authentic food there would be amazing.
