For Your Ears Only

What started out as a small record sale to raise funds for Audio Reader has turned into this gigantic annual event that draws folks from all over. Last year, there was a line that stretched from the door of Building 21, and damn near to Harper Street. They had over 12,000 records for sale, as well as DVDs and audio equipment like reel-to-reel players, turntables, and receivers, to say nothing of speakers galore.
But, really…this is a serious chance to score some great stuff for cheap. I had to leave after half an hour at last year’s event, and it just about left me in tears. You’ll see every damn crate digger in the Midwest at this shindig, and be prepared to be elbow-to-elbow with everyone from hippies to hipsters to grandparents to parents pushing strollers.
The event is September 18 from 6-9 p.m., and September 19 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. It’s $10 — $7 in advance — for Friday night or free Saturday. I recommend shelling out the $10, bringing a couple mail crates, and skipping dinner, as that entry fee on Friday night gets you various noshes and some soft drinks.

Fri., Sept. 18, 6-9 p.m.; Sat., Sept. 19, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., 2009
